WHAT TO EXPECT

Your research will be conducted in the Photonics Laboratory and the Laboratory for Optical Technologies and Materials where you will develop adaptive mirrors and innovative actuators.

You will use single-crystal piezo actuators, new substrate materials, and innovative manufacturing processes to improve the optical and mechanical properties of adaptive mirrors.

Your work is geared towards applications for materials processing, space telescopes, and mode matching of squeezed vacuum light in next-generation gravitational wave interferometers.

Your teaching duties will include supporting lab classes such as “Technische Optik”, “Wave Optics”, and “Development of Solid State Lasers”.

YOUR BACKGROUND

You have a master’s degree in physics, ideally specialising in optics or laser engineering, and experience in setting up optical systems.

You are interested in application-orientated research.

You have good programming skills and are proficient in Python or Matlab. Knowledge of other simulation software such as Comsol would be an advantage.

In addition, you have a good command of written and spoken English and German, or are willing to acquire these skills over the next few years.

You enjoy passing on your knowledge and practical skills to undergraduate students and graduate students.

WE OFFER YOU

You will receive personal support from Prof. Florian Vogelbacher and Prof. Ulrich Wittrock, whose research groups work closely together.

Both research groups have state-of-the-art laboratories, offering a modern working environment.

Two positions are available, each at 70% full-time equivalent for a period of two years.

Following a successful interim evaluation, funding for a further two years is guaranteed.

You will receive remuneration based on pay scale 13 of the Public Sector Collective Agreement for the Federal States (TV-L).

You can look forward to having plenty of creative freedom to bring your ideas to life, working with the latest technology and joining a motivated team who will give you a warm welcome.
